Golden Gate Transit - San Francisco

Golden Gate Transit is a public transportation system in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, United States. It mainly serves Marin and Sonoma Counties, and also provides limited service to San Francisco and Contra Costa County. Golden Gate Transit is one of three transportation systems owned and operated by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District. The other two are the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Ferry, both of which connect San Francisco to Marin County. Funding for cross-bridge services is partially subsidized by bridge tolls, in addition to the traditional federal and state sources. Bus service within Marin County is provided under contract with Marin Transit.
Golden Gate Transit is constituted as a special district under California State Law, as evidenced by Assembly Bill 584, creating the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District.

Oakland International Airport

Oakland International Airport , also known as Metropolitan Oakland International Airport, is a public airport located ten miles (15 km) south of the central business district of Oakland, a city in Alameda County, California, United States. It is owned by the Port of Oakland.
One of three international airports in the San Francisco Bay Area, airlines serving Oakland International provide service to numerous destinations in the United States, as well as Mexico and El Salvador. It has proven a popular alternative to San Francisco International, thanks largely to a heavy Southwest Airlines presence. Despite Southwest Airlines resuming service at SFO, Oakland International still has the highest Southwest traffic of all the Bay Area airports. In 2006, 14.4 million passengers used the airport.
Oakland International is popular with low cost airlines and in recent years has been one of the nation's fastest growing airports. Currently, Oakland International Airport serves as a focus city for low cost carrier JetBlue Airways. A $1.4 billion dollar expansion project currently underway is expected to be completed by 2009. The project includes the addition of five gates to Terminal 2, which were made available for flights starting in the fall of 2006; the last one opened in the spring of 2007. Eventually, terminal 1 will be renovated and expanded by seven gates.

San Francisco International Airport is the largest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is the second busiest airport in the state of California after Los Angeles International Airport. As of 2006, San Francisco International Airport is the thirteenth largest in the United States and the twenty-third largest airport in the world, in terms of passengers. It is a major hub of United Airlines and is Virgin America's principal base of operations. It is the sole maintenance hub of United Airlines. SFO is also a focus city for Alaska Airlines.
SFO has numerous passenger amenities, including a wide range of food and drink establishments, shopping, baggage storage, public showers, a medical clinic, and assistance for lost or stranded travelers and military personnel. The airport hosts the Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum, the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library, and both permanent and temporary art exhibitions in several places in the terminals. Public Wi-Fi is available throughout most of the terminal area, provided by T-Mobile for a fee.

The San Francisco Municipal Railway, commonly known as Muni, is the public transit system for the city and county of San Francisco, California. In 2006, it served 46.7 square miles (121 km²) with an operating budget of about $700 million. In terms of ridership, Muni is the seventh largest transit system in the United States, with 210,848,310 rides in 2006. Muni is an integral part of public transit in the City of San Francisco, operating 365 days a year and connecting with regional transportation services, such as Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), SamTrans, and AC Transit. Its network consists of 54 bus lines, 17 trolley bus lines, 7 light rail lines (known as the Muni Metro), 3 cable car lines, and a heritage streetcar line known as the F Market & Wharves. Many weekday riders are commuters, as the daytime weekday population in San Francisco exceeds its normal residential population. Muni shares four metro stations with BART, which can lead to confusion amongst visitors. Travelers can connect to San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport via BART.

SFMTA - San Francisco

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is governed by the SFMTA Board of Directors. It is composed of the San Francisco Municipal Railway and the Department of Parking and Traffic. Proposition E passed by the San Francisco voters in November 1999 amended the City Charter, calling for the creation of the SFMTA by consolidating Muni and DPT by July 1, 2002. The incorporation is intended to support the City’s Transit First Policy.
The SFMTA’s Muni is one of America’s oldest public transit agencies, the largest in the Bay Area and seventh largest system in the United States. It currently carries more than 200 million riders annually.
